Certified Medical Transcriptionist

The CMT credential is offered by the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI) and is awarded upon successfully passing the AHDI certification examination for medical transcriptionists. This credential demonstrates competency in medical transcription and high professional and ethical standards. As of April 2009 there were only 2758 CMTs.

Graduate of MTEC-Inc, Medical Transcription Education Center, Inc. in Fairlawn, Ohio - one of the foremost MT schools in the USA and the first transcription program to be certified by AHDI (formerly AAMT).

Twenty years' experience in medical transcription, with a comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology in all specialties, transcribing letters, operative reports, history and physicals, discharge summaries, SOAP notes, academic works, etc. I have worked in a hospital setting, for a National MT company, and for ten local medical specialty practices.

A high degree of literacy and accuracy along with expert knowledge of medical language, attention to detail, adherence to AHDI recommendations for style, use of standard nomenclature and fomatting, understanding of the sensitive process of editing and when to flag a report.
