Here are some frequently asked questions. Please fill out the e-mail form on the Contact page if you have any further questions.

How much do you charge?

The most common formula for compensation is the 65-character line including spaces. It is estimated that the time of transcribing is 3 to 4 times the actual length of dictation. Medical transcriptionists have costs for computers, printers, internet connections, office equipment, etc. Many medical transcriptionists are self-employed independent contractors. They must pay income tax and full social security. Usually there are no benefits such as medical insurance or vacation time. Although some medical offices would prefer to minimize transcription costs, quality medical transcription is a time-consuming, painstaking process that requires consistency and an unhurried pace to produce accurate, correct reports. Patient care is greatly dependent on these records and good transcriptionists maintain at least a 98.5% standard of accuracy. My standard of accuracy is close to 100%.

I do not have a standard charge, as there are many variables that need to be addressed. My rates are moderate. Let's talk about your requirements and figure out an affordable price that reflects the quality of my work.

Transcription charges vary throughout the USA. Although it is difficult to find information on transcription charges per line, the mean compensation for medical transcriptionists for full-time work is around $32,000 per year . Reference the Bureau of Labor Statistics for more information on this topic.

Can you transcribe microcassette tapes?

Yes. Although industry trends to accommodate the Electronic Medical Record are facilitated by digital dictation transmitted over the internet, some doctors are still using analog recorders to dictate medical reports. There are many advantages to digital dictation and eventually most doctors will convert to this.

Can you print out my letters?

Yes, I use high-quality laser printers and careful formatting to produce great-looking, easy-to-read documents. I can provide envelopes also if you need to mail your reports.

I still use analog tapes. Will you pick up and deliver work?

Yes, if your practice is within a 30-minute drive from my home office. I will deliver or FedEx hard copies of your letters if you would prefer not to have to print them. I do not provide additional copies of the letters or reports - you will need to use your office copier to do this.

I have a digital dictation system that requires specific software and the ability to send the dictation over the internet in a safe, encrypted form. Can you transcribe for me?

Yes. I use Ipswitch FTP and have server space at Pair Networks, a world-class internet hosting service. You are welcome to use this to send me your digital files. Full security and encryption is available from both these providers and your dictation is safe with me. My internet provider is Verizon FiOS, an ultra-high-speed service.

I will be happy to accommodate any good digital dictation system that you use. There's no need to use a Transcription Application Service Provider (TASP), I can provide this capability for you.
